What's Love Got To Do With It?

Dear Shiny Friend,

When was the last time someone said to you, “wow, you really do perform the very best cross-hand release I have ever had!”

It's much more likely that when your clients compliment you, it sounds something like this: your touch is magical. You're such a great listener. Your hands just seem to know exactly where to go. I trust you with things I don’t share with others. Your smile is the best part of my week. You see straight into my soul.

I’m not saying your education, clinical judgment, and techniques aren’t important.

But my friends, those things simply are not enough when it comes to creating authentic connection, deep trust, and the kind of impact that motivates your patients to do all of the important stuff such as

-Come back for more treatment.

-Actively participate in their treatment.

-Become a confident expert on themselves rather than giving power to an outside “authority.”

-Open themselves up to experience the kind of compassion that extends beyond their sessions and ripples into the rest of their world.

-Recommend your work to others.

Our training rarely involves this kind of education. Even in times when the importance of compassionate partnership is mentioned, it's not presented as a skill that can (and should!) be developed.

So how do we develop the qualities which elevate us from technician to artist? Here’s a start:

  1. We get treated

  2. We explore our belief systems about ways we energetically protect ourselves

  3. We remember our own experiences of being seen, heard, respected, and safely held

  4. We tap into our own experiences of being judged, labeled, manipulated, and dismissed

  5. We learn to recognize, hone, and trust our own unique intuitive process

  6. We learn how to move away from showing love, and shift into BEING love

Grab your journal and do some writing about your strengths and challenges in these areas. What comes up for you?

I'm holding that same love for you...
